About Jasmine Stephanotis 

Jasmine Stephanotis is an evergreen woody perennial with oval, leather-like leaves and fragrant tubular flowers. The leaves are dark glossy green, up to approximately 5 x 9 cm. 

The flowers are about 3 cm long, star-shaped, waxy, and purely white, producing trumpet-shaped blooms throughout the year. The scent of this plant fills the entire room, providing a sense of refreshment and charm to your place.

How To Care and Maintain Jasmine Stephanotis

• Plenty of Bright Light

Good light levels are essential for your plant’s long-term health and if you want to reflower in the future. Jasmine Stephanotis does not thrive well in shady or low-light locations. It means you can keep it in a dimly lit room or show it off on a coffee table while it is flowering. However, you must move it back to a brighter space once it’s over. Avoid placing it in hot intense sunlight as it can easily scorch the leaves. We also recommend avoiding south-facing windows unless you can reduce the light intensity coming through the window with some kind of shielding.  

• Provide adequate watering

When your plant’s dormant in winter, ensure the soil dries out almost fully before re-watering. You need to go very carefully, as overwatering can end up with masses of yellowing leaves at this time of the year. 

When things get brighter and warm up in spring and summer, level up your watering game. When the temperature is high, they will need more water a few times a week.

• Intolerant of Frost

Jasmine Stephanotis cannot thrive in extremely cold conditions. They appreciate average home temperatures. It grows well in moderate temperatures, preferably ranging between 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 24 degrees Celsius). 

The plant leaves will seem fine and look good whether the humidity levels are high or average. However, if the air dries, you need to provide extra humidity during summer. To do so, keep the plant beside a water feature or mist the plant. You can also spray the concrete on your patio or place the pot in a tray of pebbles and water. 

• Well-drained Soil

Keep the soil well-drained by adding coarse sand; ideally, the soil mix needs to be enhanced with a high peat moss and loam content. Try to keep the pH of the soil between 5.5 to 6.5 and keep the soil aerated. 

• Regular Feeding 

During the spring, when it starts getting warmer outside, give your Stephanotis plant some flower fertiliser. Follow the instructions on the fertiliser package. Feed the plant once a month until winter comes, and it enters its resting period.

Many houseplants can tolerate occasional feeding or even go without food for a while, but Stephanotis is different. If you forget to feed it for long, its leaves can turn yellow and develop yellow lines. It indicates that it needs regular feeding to stay healthy.
