FAQ

Yes, cacti are predominantly found in desert regions, but some species can also be found in other environments like forests, grasslands, and coastal areas.

The frequency of watering depends on factors like temperature, humidity, and the specific cactus species. As a general guideline, water your cactus thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry, and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. During winter dormancy, reduce watering.

Cacti have low nutrient requirements. During the active growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize them with a diluted, balanced cactus fertilizer according to the instructions on the package. Reduce or cease fertilization during the dormant period.

Yes, many cacti can be grown indoors. They thrive in bright, indirect sunlight near a window. Choose compact or dwarf varieties for small spaces. Ensure proper ventilation and avoid overwatering in indoor environments.

Cacti can be propagated through various methods, including stem cuttings, offsets (pups), and seeds. Stem cuttings and offsets are the most common methods. Allow cuttings or offsets to callus for a few days before planting them in well-draining soil.

Yellowing of cactus can indicate overwatering, poor drainage, or insufficient light. Check the soil moisture level, ensure the pot has drainage holes, and provide adequate sunlight. Adjusting these factors can help prevent yellowing.

Common pests that affect cacti include mealybugs, scale insects, and spider mites. Regularly inspect your cacti for signs of pests, isolate infected plants, and use appropriate organic or chemical controls. Wiping with rubbing alcohol or using insecticidal soap can be effective.

It's generally advised to avoid direct contact with cactus spines, as they can be sharp and cause injury. When handling cacti, wear thick gloves or use tongs to protect your hands. Be cautious of glochids (tiny hair-like spines) that can detach easily and cause irritation.

The lifespan of cacti varies depending on the species and growing conditions. Some cacti can live for several decades or even centuries if provided with the right care.

Most cacti are capable of producing flowers, but the timing, size, and color of the flowers vary among species. Flowering usually occurs when the cacti reach maturity and are exposed to the right environmental conditions. Remember that specific care requirements may vary depending on the species of cactus you have. It's always beneficial to research and understand the specific needs of your cactus to provide optimal care.

Better than I'd hoped
I wanted two fairly rare plants. Prefer to choose my own of course, but no one had them. Jungle Collective did, online, so despite mixed reviews I ordered them, to pick up from a pop-up pick-up place. Well, the pop-up was cancelled and I couldn't reach anyone to see what was happening. Understandable - this IS a small business, not Flower Power. But they said they'd be in touch so I waited and they were, and the next day the plants were delivered, beautiful and in perfect condition! (I didn't request or pay for delivery.) And when I say the plants are beautiful - I mean beautiful. They're larger than I hoped, well established, healthy and full of leaves, and one has three plants in the pot. They're putting out new leaves already, 3 weeks later. So, excellent plants, very good prices and considerate service. Based on my experience I recommend Jungle Collective without reservation.
