FAQ

Rubber plants are typically grown indoors as houseplants, but they can also be grown outdoors in tropical or subtropical regions. They prefer warm temperatures above 60°F (15°C) and indirect sunlight. Protect them from cold drafts and harsh direct sunlight.

During the growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize your rubber plant once a month using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. In the dormant season (fall and winter), reduce fertilization to every two to three months.

Yellowing leaves on a rubber plant can indicate various issues. Overwatering, underwatering, lack of light, or exposure to cold drafts can cause leaf yellowing. Check the soil moisture, adjust watering, ensure proper lighting, and protect the plant from drafts to address this issue.

Yes, rubber plants can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. Take a 6-8 inch (15-20 cm) cutting from a healthy plant, remove the lower leaves, and place the cutting in water or moist soil. Roots should develop in a few weeks, after which you can transplant it into a pot.

Rubber plants contain a milky sap that can be toxic to pets if ingested. The sap contains compounds called ficin and isoprene, which can cause digestive upset in cats and dogs. Keep rubber plants out of reach of pets or consider choosing pet-safe alternatives.

Rubber plants are known to grow quite large if given the right conditions. Indoors, they can reach a height of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) or more, depending on the care provided. Regular pruning can help control their size.

To prune a rubber plant, use clean and sharp pruning shears. Trim off any leggy or overgrown branches to maintain a bushier shape. You can also prune the top to control its height. Pruning is best done in spring or early summer when the plant is actively growing.

Rubber plants prefer bright, indirect light. While they can tolerate some direct sunlight, too much intense sunlight can scorch their leaves. It's best to place them near a window with filtered or indirect sunlight. If you have specific concerns about your rubber plant, it's always a good idea to consult with a local plant expert or horticulturist for personalized advice.

Better than I'd hoped
I wanted two fairly rare plants. Prefer to choose my own of course, but no one had them. Jungle Collective did, online, so despite mixed reviews I ordered them, to pick up from a pop-up pick-up place. Well, the pop-up was cancelled and I couldn't reach anyone to see what was happening. Understandable - this IS a small business, not Flower Power. But they said they'd be in touch so I waited and they were, and the next day the plants were delivered, beautiful and in perfect condition! (I didn't request or pay for delivery.) And when I say the plants are beautiful - I mean beautiful. They're larger than I hoped, well established, healthy and full of leaves, and one has three plants in the pot. They're putting out new leaves already, 3 weeks later. So, excellent plants, very good prices and considerate service. Based on my experience I recommend Jungle Collective without reservation.
