The Acacia or Wattle is an iconic Australian plant family most famous for its typically iconic golden to white flowers and hardy nature. Acacias vary widely in form from large trees like Blackwood Wattles and Black Wattles to shrubs, through to prostate species and groundcovers. Although many Wattles have iconic golden flowers, this too can vary with some varieties having white and even red blooms. The foliage can also vary widely from the lush greens rainforest leaves of the Blackwood Wattle, to the purple foliage of the Acacia Baileyana Purpurea, through to the dropping, spindly foliage of the Shoestring Wattle. Wattles can be fast growing and hardy, making them ideal on compromised sites, such as steep landscapes and where erosion has been a problem. Some species can be fast growing but short-lived, spreading their seed prolifically while species like Blackwood Wattles can live for over 200 years We hope you enjoy and if you find this exploration inspiring don’t forget to share!
