Not-so-frequent Water Requirements 

The plant does not appreciate dampness and, thus, needs watering only when the soil is dried (not completely). Standing water is a direct indicator of root rot for the tree, thus be careful about heavy watering. 

Lighting Needs

Dracaena Draco tolerates bright and direct sunlight; however, harsh afternoon lighting may possibly impact the tree and scorch its leaves. If it has to grow indoors, ensure to position it where the tree gets at least 8-10 hours of indirect but bright lighting. 

Humidity

The tree in its native habitat, absorbs moisture from air. Thus, a surrounding with moderate to high humidity levels is best suitable for unhindered growth. If your climate is not humid, use techniques like misting the leaves or positioning water in a container nearby. 

Soil Type

Utilise a breathable and porous potting blend, incorporating a combination of potting medium and peat moss for optimal aeration. Transfer this mixture into a planter equipped with a well-drainage aperture to ensure proper water flow.

Fertilising

Fertilise your tree after six months with a slow-release fertiliser. For healthy growth, feeding it during the growth period and spring season is essential. 

Pruning Needs

The tree naturally grows in good shape and hardly needs any pruning. However, the dead or yellow leaves must be removed carefully. You can also trim the upper branches of the tree if it’s growing too tall.

Pests

Fortunately, dragon trees are not prone to pests usually; however, there is still a minor risk of mealybugs and scale. These can be detected by evaluating the plant and looking for signs of insect presence or discoloured foliage. As soon as these are detected, immediately use insecticidal soap or neem oil to treat the plant.
