Philodendron Varieties – The Philodendron Plant Family

The Philodendron Plant Family could rightfully claim to be the King of Indoor Plants! There are an estimated 450 unique Philodendron Species and countless hybrids. Native to the Tropics of the Americas and South America and growing in jungle environments they are perfectly adept for lower light conditions making them a perfect houseplant. Philodendrons are extremely diverse from the gigantic leaves of species such as Philodendron Pastazanum through to the smaller leaves of popular vines like Philodendron Brasil. The Plant Families growth habit also varies greatly from vines and epiphytes through to species like Philodendron Rojo Congos with thick clumping growing habits. Philodendrons also vary greatly in leaf texture from the rough texture of Philodendron Rugasum, effectionately known as the Pigskin Philodendron through to the velvety leaves of Philodendron Melanochrysum or the shiny leaves of the Philodendron Cordatum. There is also great diversity in leaf form from the highly serregated leaves of the Philodendron Warszewiczii to the full leaves of a Philodendron White Knight.
