Where to buy Philodendron Gloriosum in Australia?

Why we’re glad you asked as we do our best to have a steady supply of Philodendron Gloriosum.

Philodendron Gloriosum Introduction

Philodendron Gloriosums are famous for their big veined velvety leaves. They’re a true showstopper and only get better with age as their leaves grow increasingly impressive.

Philodendron Gloriosum Light

Bright, indirect light is the Gloriosum’s best friend. Don’t be afraid of the large windows that let in the sun. Your plants will love it there. In exchange for ample sunlight, Gloriosums gives you lush, brightly coloured foliage. Take note that the colour of Philodendron Gloriosum is highly dependent on sun exposure.

However, make sure that the sun’s rays do not hit the plants directly. Too much sunlight can burn the leaves and damage the philodendron.

Philodendron Gloriosum Watering

When watering philodendron plants, allow the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings to avoid root rot.

Philodendron Gloriosum Soil and Fertiliser

For Philodendron gloriosum, well-drained soil rich in organic matter is the best choice. A soil pH level between 5-8 is best.
Orchid soil combined with peat and perlite gives the philodendron the right amount of aeration and drainage. For healthy, bright green foliage, add organic matter to the planting mix. This increases the nutrients in the soil and promotes plant growth.

Another ingredient in many Aroid mixes is garden charcoal. It is said to sweeten the soil and remove toxins. You may wonder why plants prefer charcoal in the soil. The reason is quite simple. You should always try to mimic the natural habitat of the plant you are cultivating as closely as possible. Poor drainage from inadequate soil leads to root rot.

Philodendron Gloriosum Design Tips

The grand architectural heart-shaped leaves are showstoppers. The deep green and striking white veins are perfect for terracotta pots.

Philodendron Gloriosum Toxicity

Like most aroids Philodendron Gloriosums are toxic if ingested by pets or humans.

Philodendron Gloriosum Pests and Diseases

Like most aroids, Gloriosums can be susceptible to common pests like mealybugs and spider mites. With large juicy leaves, with undulating leaves and plenty of little nooks to hide pests can be attracted to them. Pests tend to especially target sad plants who have a reduced natural defence, so the best defence is often ensuring that your Gloriosum is living it’s best life! Philodendron Gloriosum Extra Tip

In Nature Philodendron Gloriosums are a ground runner. Unlike other Philodendrons the rhizomes should not be buried under the soil which is a common mistake when potting up or propagating, but rather sit on top of the soil.
