This Australian native is a fast-growing vine that produces leathery, dark green, egg-shaped leaves and a fabulous habit of climbing nearly anything in front of it. It produces superb pea-shaped purple- or lilac-colored flowers in clusters. It forms a dense covering that is perfect as a groundcover for a purple carpet or for smothering weeds and is a fantastic climber and can make an ideal showpiece or for hiding unsightly walls and fences. You can propagate through seeds, they have a tough seed coat so it is recommended to soak them in lukewarm water for 24hrs before sowing them on to the soil surface. Use a peaty or sandy soil and press the seeds down. Ensure the soil is moist and keep the pots indoors without any direct sunlight. Wait for the seed to germinate for around 30-60 days and allow to establish before replanting them in the ground outdoors. You can also propagate the happy wanderer using cuttings. During active growing months take a healthy stem on a well-growing vine that should be about 15-20cm long. Dip the cuttings in a rooting hormone before planting them in a pot. Keep the soil moist to help the roots grow. You should start to see new growth within a couple of weeks.
