Where to buy a Parlour Palm in Australia?

Why we're glad you asked as we do our best to have a steady supply of Parlour Palms in stock.

Parlour Palm Introduction

Chamaedorea Elegans, the parlour palm, is the smallest species of palm tree native to the rainforests of Mexico. It’s popular and one of the favorite indoor plants. This lovely plant has an attractive light green, slender foliage that definitely gives a tropical look to any space.

Parlour palm grows in attractive clumps with light-textured foliage cloaking thin trunks. An elegant plant, easy to look after, with excellent air purifying qualities. They are undemanding in terms of light, water, temperature, humidity and feed, making them perfect for those of us that like low-maintenance room-mates.

Parlour Palm Care Tips Introduction

The parlour palm is one of the most popular indoor palms grown all over the world. It is an easy-to-care plant and can adapt to any environment. A great plant to start for the beginners. This lovely tropical plant thrives well even in low light and doesn’t like to be under direct sunlight as it tends to burn its gorgeous leaves.

Parlour Palm Soil

This palm will grow well in almost any soil (sandy, loami or clay). But it does not tolerate salty soil. Make sure it’s a well-draining soil to prevent root rot.

Parlour Palm Lighting & Position

Parlour plants are low-light plants, however brighter locations with plenty of indirect sunlight will help the plant to thrive well.

Parlour Palm Watering

Underwatering is better than overwatering. Water well, make sure the water comes out the water hole. Wait until and inch or below the soil surface has dried out before watering again. They're forgiving plants and will let you off if you forget to water them on occasion. Too much wetness around the roots for prolonged periods will encourage fungi and run the risk of root rot which could quickly kill your plant.

Parlour Palm Humidity

Parlour palm can thrive with average humidity, can tolerate some dry indoor air, however increased humidity will help stave off brown leaf tips. Give your palm occasional misting, it will also help keep the leaves dust-free.

Parlour Palm Fertiliser

Feed it with slow-release fertilizer or a weak solution every few weeks. Do not feed during the winter.

Parlour Palm Extra Tips

Chamaedorea Elegans are technically slow grower plants and generally don’t like regular root disturbance because they have week root systems. Frequent repotting can be damaging over the long term. Young plants will often still need to be repotted once a year until they reach a mature size for space to grow. Repot mature plants when the potting media breaks down and starts to affect your watering efforts.

Parlour Palm Toxicity

Like many palms, the Parlour Palm is not poisonous to pets or people. So it can be enjoyed by you and your four legged friends without worry.

Parlour Palm Vulnerability to Pests & Disease

Parlor palms are vulnerable to pests including aphids, mealy bugs, scale, and whitefly. If possible, identify the infestation as early as possible. Fungal leaf spots and root rot can occur from moisture issues such as overwatering. Apply insecticide or fungicide once every 6months to prevent pests.
